Oregon's Columbia River

We stopped for a few days at a KOA along the Columbia River. Carmel really enjoyed the many waterfalls even with a little rain.

Bill Medley in Laughlin

One reason we stopped in Laughlin was to see Bill Medley's show at the Laughlin Casino. He can still do a great job with his hits and puts on a great show with new material. His daughter and son-in-law were also in the show. If you have a chance to see Bill before he "retires" , do it.

Bullhead City and Oatman, Arizona

On our way to Washington, we stopped in Bullhead City, Arizona across the river from Laughlin, Nevada. We parked at a RV park in Bullhead City and made a day trip to Oatman, the old "Route 66" town. (The little white wild burro is just resting from all the tourists.) We met the town cat who hates and chases away coyotes !

Skip Las Vegas. Go to Bullhead City and enjoy Arizona and our favorite casino town, Laughlin.

Quartzsite, Arizona

Had to visit Quartzsite on our way to our work camping job in Washington state. There were still many RVs in and around the town in late March. We found it a very peaceful and friendly place to park for the night.

Here we are in our dry camp. The neighbor's rig was pretty impressive !

Jerome and Sedona, Arizona

Took a day trip to Jerome and Sedona while at Casa Grande. Jerome is a quaint little mountain town with a great restaurant, the Flatiron. Scenery is great to and in Sedona. Sedona is a bit too much of a tourist town for my taste but looks like it's gaining in popularity with those with big bucks to invest and retire here. Check out the house under construction in Sedona !

Phoenix Zoo

Phoenix has a great, well planned zoo. The star has to be the young orangutan.

Mission San Xavier del bac

One of Tuscon's most popular attractions is Mission San Xavier del bac. It is represented as the oldest Catholic church in the United States. The architecture has a mixture of themes including Baroque, Moorish, and Spanish. It's a beautiful church, and well worth a visit. In the parking lot, Indians sell fresh fried bread with an assortment of ingredients. The food was very fresh, very good, and reasonably priced.

Tucson's Mt. Lemmon

Tuscon just has it all ! Great cultural venues, the best dining options, wonderful old west history, and even great mountain air. Mt. Lemmon is a short drive, and well worth it. Don't go to Tuscon without driving up to the top.

I was the chauffeur for Carmel, Carmel's sister Angie and our beautiful niece, Elena.

USMC's Ira Hayes

Near Phoenix is the small town of Sacaton. Sacaton is the capital of the Gila River Indian Comunity. Ira Hayes was born near here and buried in Sacaton. All Marines know of the Pima Indian, Ira Hayes and all who have viewed the famous painting and sculpture of the "Flag Raising at Iwo Jima" have seen Ira represented, as he was one of the Marines who took part in the event.

Sacaton has created a fitting memorial to Ira and to their other veterans.
