Tucson's Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

We ran down to Tucson yesterday for an afternoon at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. It's worth a visit. Plan on at least two or three hours to enjoy the walks and exhibits. Many people spend the day. Especially interesting was the Raptor Free Flight where we were able to observe Harris Hawks in action. The other wildlife exhibits are educational.

We had dinner in Tucson at a very popular steakhouse, El Corral at 2201 East River Road. Great steaks and reasonable prices. Go early and be prepared to wait in line. We arrived at 5:00 P.M. and were immediately seated. When we left, the line was long outside ! They take no reservations. Well worth a stop.

Palm Creek RV Resort Casa Grande, Arizona

We decided to relax for the winter in Arizona and selected the Palm Creek RV Resort in Casa Grande south of Phoenix as our home for part of January, February and March, 2009. Palm Creek is a true resort with great golf, heated swimming pool, lawn bowling, tennis, and the list goes on. There are several craft classes and shops and many entertainment opportunities. We highly recommend Palm Creek if you want to unwind and enjoy the great Arizona winter weather.

Riverside Hotel and Casino, Laughlin, Nevada

We discovered that Glen Campbell was at the Riverside Hotel in Laughlin, Nevada and decided we had to see this veteran. It's a nice drive from Phoenix to Laughlin and plenty to see on the way. The Riverside is owned by Mr. Laughlin himself and it is loaded with activities. Frankly, I prefer Laughlin to Las Vegas and I like the Riverside Hotel. It has character. There is a riverwalk that allows easy access to the other casinos along the river.

Glen put on a great show and it included a couple of songs by his daughter. Glen remains one of the world's great guitar players and his voice is still strong. Overall, a really great, intimate show that included the oldies and some new songs.

Las Vegas Bus Trip

While at Palm Creek Resort, we took a bus tour from Mesa to Las Vegas, Nevada. The trip was operated by Especially 4U Tours in Phoenix. The package included two nights at the Plaza Hotel and Casino, a buffet meal enroute, a buffet meal on the return and the bus ride round trip. In addition, the hotel gave us free tickets to the Rat Pack Is Back show. All for $99 per person. What a deal. We highly recommend Especially 4U Tours. Very professional, and reasonable.
