USMC's Ira Hayes

Near Phoenix is the small town of Sacaton. Sacaton is the capital of the Gila River Indian Comunity. Ira Hayes was born near here and buried in Sacaton. All Marines know of the Pima Indian, Ira Hayes and all who have viewed the famous painting and sculpture of the "Flag Raising at Iwo Jima" have seen Ira represented, as he was one of the Marines who took part in the event.

Sacaton has created a fitting memorial to Ira and to their other veterans.
